Happy news! I got a notice from Knit Picks that they have the paprika yarn in so I hurried up and ordered a bunch of skeins. It says "low stock". I also ordered a few other colors that had the same notation just to be sure though I'm fairly certain I have enough to complete the temperature afghan. I'll be heading back to that one as soon as the yarn arrives. I hope I can pick up my rhythm without too much of a setttling in period. :-) You know how it is when you put down a project.
In the meantime I've completed the number afghan to go with the alphabetghan.
Finished size is about 22" x 25 1/2".
I used the same basic procedure as for the alphabetghan. I just followed my charts for the numbers. I edged each number with the aran, joined them in columns because of the way my long tails were placed, edged each column, assembled the columns, then edged the entire thing. I used a plain old single crochet edging.
The yarn is the same as the alphabetghan without the pumpkin. I used blue, cherry red, paddy green and yellow.
Happy crocheting!

anniversary hooks
I'm sorry to say that Craft Designs For You no longer makes the painted wooden hooks. I am looking for another source.
There is a shop on Etsy that will etch the name Crochet Cabana and the dates 1997-2017 on a hook. I have ordered one to see how it looks. However, the cost is a bit more than I was hoping, almost $40.
There is a person who expressed some interest in making hooks but before he commits he needs to know an approximate number that he would have to make. If that should work out, I think the cost would be less.
If you are interested in a hook, please do let me know. Even if you are not willing to spend that much, let me know you have some interest so I can ask dealers if they can handle the number of orders that may be received. This is NOT a commitment to buy. I just need to know if anyone is interested at all.
I am also very open to investigating other sources. My main criteria is that it has the name and date, which is what marks the anniversary. I would also prefer it to be wooden. I'm pretty open on any other details.
What's on my hook now is a small numberghan to go with the alphabetghan just finished, just like the one I made previously but with different colors. Im also thinking of putting the pattern up at Ravelry and Etsy if there is interest.

alphabet afghan
The alphabet afghan is this close to being finished. Just have tails to sew in and a washing to soften up that Red Heart yarn.
Here is the finished afghan ... front
... and back with all the tails
And closeups of most of it. It's hard to get the design to show up in filet projects.
The finished size is approx 35" x 53". I used an I hook for the rectangles and an H hook for the side edgings.
Yarn used is Red Heart Super Saver 7 oz skeins Red, Blue, Pumpkin, Paddy Green, and 14 oz. Aran and I Love This Yarn Yellow. I have a lot of the 14 oz skeins of aran leftover but I don't think a 7 ounce skein would have been enough.
Here are the steps I took.
1) choose yarn and pattern (my alphabet afghan design)
2) figure out color placement and which letters needed to be made in which color (6 of each color including blanks)
3) make the rectangles, sewing in tails as I went, using the filet pattern
4) edge each rectangle in aran leaving a long tail for assembly - I generally do 3x length of squares
5) assemble rows (in order of the alphabet according to design)
6) edge around each row with the aran
7) assemble rows together, being careful to keep the alphabet in order
8) edge around entire afghan in aran
That's where I'm at but there are two more steps to go.
9) sew tails in
10) launder on gentle cycle with cold water
The only WIP I have that I want to work on is the spider afghan but there's no rush on that.
Happy crocheting!
