Batik Swirl Meadow

I had a few skeins of Stylecraft Batik Swirl in shade 3736 Meadow and decided to continue with scarves using these. I used my Bella Coco Athena G hook which came all the way from the UK (Thanks, Sarah Jayne).

This yarn is 80% acrylic and 20% wool so I put a tag on it noting the wool content as some might have allergies.

I chained 25 and used straight dc for 140 rows.

I worked on these while quite sick with a respiratory virus hubby brought home from a recent trip. It took no concentration but gave a nice finished look with pretty colors.

I'm still working on getting rid of this illness but doing a bit better.

Scrap scarves

Here is the next batch of scrap scarves. One is a little shorter in length but the rest are 60" or longer.

As noted in the previous post, most of the scarves I've made so far have been made using Bev's WC scarf pattern. I chained 20 or 22 and worked 120 rows on most, more on some. (The shorter one has 114 rows as I ran out of yarn.)

I still have a bin of leftovers in #4 worsted and one in #3 weight. I also have some #1 weight. I'm working through it all since May 2023.

More scrap scarves

More scrap scarves!

Most of the scarves I've made so far have been made using Bev's WC scarf pattern. I chained 20 or 22 and worked 120 rows on most, more on some. One of these I did with the griddle stitch just to do something different. These are all #4 worsted yarns though as you know not all worsted yarns are the same.

All of the scarves I've made so far have been washed and put aside for when it gets cold.

Scrap scarves

I thought I'd share a picture of my latest hook. It is by Laurie Whitaker. We all like owls. :-)

I took some "better" pictures of the scrap scarves I've been making. Hopefully, you can see the variety of colors in them. There are 11 in total so far.

I still have plenty of leftover balls to work with and some whole and partial skeins still in my stash.

I started making items from my stash about May 2023 and have bought very little new yarn since then. I am amazed at how this has worked out. Lots of warm items made.

Scrap scarves

I haven't been posting but I've been crocheting. I've been making scrap scarves using those leftover balls of yarn that one accumulates.

Here are the ones I've finished. The yarns are #4 and #3 weight. I generally chained 20 or 22 and worked about 140 rows. Some have more and some less. I wanted them long so they could be wrapped around the neck twice since some of the yarn is more lightweight. I used an H hook for most.

I still have a good many balls of leftovers so I may be doing this for a while. :-) It's warm here in the south so scarves are not really needed right now so I have time to make quite a few.

heart mini blanket

I finished a mini blanket using Mayhem & Majesty's heart square. I used an H hook. I made these squares when I made the ones used in the large afghan but these came out larger and I didn't want to mix them. I joined them and added the white border. I am pleased with how it came out.

Finished size is about 23" square.

Keep Calm

Here's an afghan that is NOT from my stash. LOL I've been wanting to make a few of these squares from Mayhem & Majesty's 2025 CAL so I bit the bullet and bought yarn specifically for this. I had a deadline in mind so I wanted a few squares I could do quickly without following the filet design so I added the white ones and just added one row of filet top and bottom.

You can get the patterns for free on the blog as they come out or you can opt to purchase the ebook with all the patterns. The information on the CAL can be found here. It's a double CAL with both a filet and a mosaic pattern.

For this afghan I used an I hook with I Love This Yarn White and Buttercup. I added rounds of single crochet in buttercup and white and joined with a whipstitch.

Finished size is about 55" x 61". Each rectangle is about 18" x 20".

Stash afghan

Another afghan made from stash yarn. This one uses #3 weight. Paintbox simply dk and others. I used an H hook. Finished size is about 40" x 44".

Pattern is straight dc. 87 rows. Wide strips are ch 52. Narrow strip is ch 27. The border is one round of double crochet followed by one round of (sc, ch 2, 2 dc, sk 2).

While this is not my favorite project it's certainly serviceable and will keep one warm. My stash is getting smaller and my yarn choices are not as great as at the beginning.

granny square cardigan and baby afghan

Apparently granny square cardigans are the thing. Look at Jason Momoa and Jack Black wearing theirs, made by Tosha Marie Treat Yo Self Crochet.  Visit her Etsy shop.

I also saw this cute thing at the same site.

Here's what I've been working on. About 42" square blanket. H hook. DK #3 weight yarn in pastel colors. No pattern. I just worked a few rows in different stitches. Most of the yarn is Stylecraft Special DK or Paintbox Simply DK.

Finished blankets

My hubby kindly picked up the yarn I needed to finish the little heart blanket and the larger one.

Here's the blue one. Finished size is about 29" x 32". I used the birthday hook (shown in this entry) for all squares.

Here's the larger one. 43" x 48". The black border is I Love This Yarn. The rest are leftovers from my stash. Do you see the error? I didn't see it until someone pointed it out to me.

heart squares

I know it's been a while but I'm still crocheting. I'm still dealing with health issues as one does when one gets to be my age. I've continued to make heart squares though as I mentioned in my last post. The pattern is Mayhem & Majesty's.

Here's what I've done with them so far.

I had enough of the blue and cream to make this small blanket. I still need to add a border but I need to get a skein of yarn.

This is a true scrap blanket in progress. All the squares are made and joined into strips. Apologies for the photo. You can see the long tails I left for assembly and my messy bed. The strips need to be assembled. I haven't decided if I'll put a border on each strip and then around the whole thing (I'd need to buy yarn) or just around the whole thing (I have one 3 1/2 ounce skein of black which might do for that.)

I'm still working from stash yarn. For the squares if a ball looked like it might be large enough I weighed it on my postal scale. If it was an ounce or more it was good.

One problem I had was a self-made one. I don't have the habit of keeping labels with my leftovers and I couldn't always tell if a yarn was worsted or DK or sport. I have bins specifically for each size but my yarn closet was recently overhauled and things got mixed up.

I still have a few squares that came out too large which I may do something with later.

heart squares

I thought I'd pop in and share what I've been doing.

I've been working through my stash yarn as I may have mentioned before. These heart squares by Mayhem & Majesty take less than an ounce of yarn. The pattern is very simple. It's called the Filet Crochet Heart Granny Square.

The hook is the birthday hook given to me by my friend Fran.

I plan to continue making these in between other projects.

afghan and snowmageddon

I know I've been away a while. Lots of health issues but I continue to crochet as I can. Here is the scrap afghan I just finished.

Yarn: sport scraps

Hook: G/4.0mm

Pattern: straight dc. Two strips with foundation chain of 50 and one of 100. I tried to get 10 rows of each color and succeeded with the 50 stitch strips. For the 100 it was whatever I had.

Size: 44" x 54"

Louisiana is currently having snow issues. There was even a blizzard but not in my area. It has been snowing since this morning - it's almost 4pm now. We expect a few more hours of it.  I've not gone outside as it is cold and I'm not steady on grass, much less snow! Louisiana is not equipped to handle snow, especially of this magnitude, so everything is shut down. We've been told not to get on the road but to shelter in place.

Here is a picture of my backyard this morning at 10am. There's a lot more snow here now.

I hope you all are warm and cozy in your homes.
