Planted on Earth, but bloomed in heaven.
November 19, 1983 we lost our first baby to miscarriage. There are a few organizations now that strive to help with the healing from infant loss by providing something tangible, like a baby blanket, in memory of the infant.
I am aware of three of them though there may be others as well. You can read more about them on the websites. Project Robby, Rachel's Gift, and Angel Blankets.
God allowed us to know our baby only through a brief pregnancy. While we don't actually know the gender of the baby we lost, our thought was that the baby was a girl and named her Kristina (Kris) in our hearts. We could be wrong but girl or boy this sweet babe will always be a part of us and loved.
We are sad at her loss before we could get to know her, but happy that she lived. We look forward to meeting her again when we join her in heaven one day. How can I know that we will indeed see our baby in heaven one day? Well, firstly I know that she is there because a baby is a baby from the moment of conception. All children who have not reached the age of understanding before they are taken from this earth, are with Jesus. I know that I will be there too because I know Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. You can have this assurance too.
In a nutshell:
Admit - Confess to God you are a sinner. Repent and turn away from your sin
Believe - Believe that Jesus is God’s Son, that He died on the cross so that we could be forgiven for our sins and have eternal life in heaven, and that He rose again and is alive now at the right hand of God
Commit - Commit your life to Jesus. Ask him to be your Savior and Lord
All you have to do is tell God how you feel. Prayer is simply talking to God. The words that you use are not important as God knows your heart. Here is a sample prayer:
"Dear God, I know I am a sinner. I know that I can't earn my own way to heaven. I believe Jesus died on the cross so I could be forgiven and have eternal life in heaven. I believe He rose from the grave. I am truly sorry for my sins. Please forgive me. Lord Jesus, come and take control of my life. Help me to live for you. Thank you for hearing me and for saving me. I accept the precious gift of eternal life. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen."
Here is a poem/song I wrote to the precious little one that we lost.
Wind Beneath Your Wings
by Sandra Stevens Petit
It must have been lonely in the shadows,
There in the shadows of my womb
You were content to be our child
You were so loved; I think you knew
We were too young to ever think that
We could just lose you any day.
A beautiful face without a name
A beautiful smile we’d never see
Did you know how much we loved you,
And all that we wanted you to be?
Now you can fly higher than an eagle,
For God is the wind beneath your wings
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
But I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know that you’re so loved
Safe and secure in heaven above.
Did you know how much we loved you,
You're all that we wanted you to be
You can fly higher than an eagle,
With God as the wind beneath your wings
I would also like to remember with this page other family members who have gone before me -
my parents, Austin and Leoncia
my sisters, Janet, Silvia, and Joyce
my sisters-in-law, Cindy and Debbie
my brothers-in-law, Sid and Philip
my niece, Shelley
my mother and father-in-law, Stella and Lois
And all other loved ones lost to members of my extended family
There are many who have passed away in what to us are untimely deaths.
I pray that those of us who remain behind will be buoyed by the love of God and our faith in His perfect timing.
