I have a lot of trouble with my knees and feet so I thought I'd make a rug to go by my bedside as a cushion for when I get out of bed. I had four skeins of Northland Chunky Delights in a delightful variegated yarn called Blueberry Patch (although the label actually says Blbry Ptch which is ... not actual words).
Sadly, even though I had four skeins, it was not enough. I used every bit of it and ran out with just a few stitches left on a row so I finished the row with some other yarn I had lying around, because I wanted that row to give me some length. I know that would drive some of you crazy! It bothers me, but the plan is to get more of the Northland and finish it at some point. Here is the rug. The off-color is at the top left. I didn't sew in the tails since I am hoping to fix that bit later. The yarn was purchased in a sale somewhere - I want to say maybe Herrschner, but not sure. If I can't get more of it, I'll at least have a better idea of how much it takes to get a decent size rug.
I remembered reading somewhere that puffy paint on the back would keep it from sliding all over the place - because one thing I don't need is to step out of bed and land on my face. I happened to have some but not enough to cover the whole thing. I don't really find that it does much, but then I haven't fallen yet so maybe it is helping.
I was thinking today that maybe it is glue I needed to put on the bottom. I will have to research that but what's done is done now.
In other news I finished another scarf - again, I had four skeins of Sundance Colorwaves Gemstone (really pretty) and I thought that should be plenty for a scarf. The skeins were 1.75 ounces. I did finish the scarf but it is 7" x 55". Not as long as I'd have liked. The yarn is not very soft but not rough. It has an interesting feel to it, not unpleasant (to me).
I also finished a hat with some camo yarn that was found yesterday. I find it a bit large, but then I usually use an H hook for hats and I used an I this time. Since heads come in different sizes, I am sure it will fit someone. My head is small, so I may be judging it too harshly. :-) I think I have enough yarn to make another hat as well. This is Red Heart Super Saver Desert Camo. Doesn't look much like the desert to me, but that's what the label says.
I was going through some e-mails today and ran across this McAfee testing site. It tests web sites to see if they are safe. I am happy to report that Crochet Cabana was found safe.

Did you just use a sc for the rug? My bathroom rugs are wearing out and I can't find ready made ones that I like so I've been thinking about making some. I've heard glue from a glue gun is one way to keep the rug from slipping. I haven't tried it but it's much less expensive than puff paint. I use commercial rug pads under my rugs but they can get slippery if they get dusty, which happens quite often in my entry. (I need to wash it again.) You can get a big roll or sheet and cut it to size.
ReplyDeleteI probably should have used sc but I am too impatient for that. I used straight dc. Thanks for the tip about the glue gun. I do have one and I might supplement what I did with that. If it works, I'll know for the next time.
Deleteeverything you make is always so delightful to look at. wanted to let you know that I am not really back . dont crochet much any more. no time except to take care of hubby. but I dont know what I would do if he was not here.
