Miranda Scarf done, new pattern chosen

I finally finished the Miranda Scarf. I used all of the skein and a tiny bit I found on a work in progress (no longer in progress!). I will go off and correct the pattern to reflect 8 ounces and add the line count and such for it.

Finished size is 7" x 61 1/2". I did 115 rows, beginning and ending with a dc row. It's very soft, which is one of the things I like about I Love This yarn. I love this color too, though it might not be a typical color used for scarves. I am partial to blues. :-)

I like the way this pattern make the X or diamond, depending on where you start looking. The line of "holes" in the middle helps you in keeping your place in the pattern and gives a different sort of look, essentially dividing the two sections in half.

The next pattern I am going to try is a challenging one. It is called Houndstooth and is on p. 117 of the The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet: *All You Need to Know to Crochet *The Essential Reference for Novice and Expert Crocheters *Comprehensive Guide to ... Charts, and Photos for 200 Stitch Patterns. Here is what I have done so far. I have to tell you this is like the fourth time I attempt it. It's not that it's difficult. It is just that you can't skim the instructions. You have to actually read them. heh I finally got that when it tells you to ch 4, your next instructions are to go into THAT chain. Duh.

Will I be successful in completing the pattern? I don't know. How about you?

I did try to find something online for houndstooth but was unsuccessful in finding something that looked like this pattern. To my surprise I found several references to one of my own patterns. A scarf I did some time ago which I called Jamie's Scarf, since it was made for my friend Jamie, then living in Alaska. It is tightly worked, very wide and long, and uses a long stitch to give a bit of color in the black. Jamie especially requested the two colors and this size. I was happy to oblige.

If you don't have the above book, or just want to do something different, here is my Jamie's Scarf pattern.

Materials: H hook, #16 needle, 8 oz each Red Heart worsted wt yarn in black and hunter green.

Size: approx 11" x 66"

Special stitches:
long single crochet (lsc) - Insert hook on the row below the row you are working on, and work a sc, bringing your loop up to same height as previous stitches
Note: Change color by completing last sc of row in new color

Instructions:
Multiple: even number

With black, ch 200

Row 1: single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across, ch 1, turn

Row 2: sc in each sc, change to hunter green, ch 1, turn

Row 3: with hunter green, long single crochet (lsc) in first stitch on second row below (in other words, not in the first stitch of this row, but go in front of the stitch to the hole below it), * sc in next stitch, lsc in next (on row below), repeat from * across row. You will end with a lsc in last stitch (on row below) , ch 1, turn.

Row 4: sc in ea st across, change to black, ch 1, turn

Row 5: with black, sc in first sc, *lsc in next, sc in next, repeat from * across. You will end with a sc in the last stitch, ch 1, turn.

Row 6: sc in ea st across, change to hunter green, ch 1, turn

Repeat rows 3-6 until you have 10", working two rows of each color, ending in black. Do not finish off

Border: With black, ch 1, turn. Work single crochet along last row. 3 sc in corner stitch. Single crochet in each row down side. 3 sc in corner stitch. Single crochet in free loops of foundation chain. 3 sc in corner stitch. Single crochet along last side. 2 sc in last stitch. Join with slip stitch. Finish off.
