October is the Crochet Cabana anniversary month. 26 years! It's been a lot of fun to share my work with you all. I'm not doing anything special to celebrate. Just noting it here for posterity. :-)</p><p>As you may remember, I keep the Wordpress <a href="http://www.crochetcabana.com" target="_blank">site </a>up to date but I thought I'd come by and share a few pics here as well. </p><p>This past year was the year of the scrap afghans. I wanted to use up some of my extensive stash and created a number of afghans, scarves and various other things to that end. Here are a few of the blankets.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN4tQKK2WgoEhyJ2Gtm_ISP-reFliOQ5BprJz4W89DVvh6ezo9nxdBpLZ3Ge33hrqvWeyTeeJdfiieQXDTbajayP4UXp5mKy0OkttWfpNRgEA9j5_ouSSXsrHZr-pB0quhwdMNdU02QX2MKnuQS2SyJUS489BLnwMYnlnVl7dlBPO7ucNB4lARwGx7jy2G/s4121/7-15-2023%20shell%20scrap%20afghan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I set myself a challenge to make a square (or some project) with each of my hooks. The squares are mostly the <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/patterns/patterns-by-other-designers/" target="_blank">Cross Stitch Square</a> designed by my daughter, Kate Smith. I've made thousands of these squares. I know some people don't like to make the same thing over and over but I don't mind it. It's mindless.</p><p>I warn you that I collect hooks and I have a lot of them! I have quite a few hooks from Polymer Clay Shed. She sells both Boye and Bates style hooks and I have some of both. After my hand surgery, my crocheting style changed for a while in that I went to the knife hold rather than my usual pencil hold. Also, though I had always been a "Boye" gal, I found the Bates style hooks worked well for me during that transitional time. Now I can use both!</p><p>Here are some of the pictures I've posted. It's only interesting if you want to see the different hook styles. I'm still working on this project, currently using my Furls hook collection. In the <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">WordPress</a> posts I have additional info on the hooks in some of the pictures but I thought it would make this post too long if I included all that. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Crochet Cabana is having another anniversary! I am celebrating 25 years online.</p><p>As I did for the 15th and 20th anniversaries, I ordered hooks for myself with the dates on them.</p><p><span style="background-color: white; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; white-space: pre-wrap;">The top one came from </span><a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/EngravingForYou" rel="noreferrer noopener" style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #0073aa; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; outline: 0px; transition: none 0s ease 0s; white-space: pre-wrap;" target="_blank">Engraving for You</a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, "Helvetica Neue", sans-serif; white-space: pre-wrap;"> at Etsy. I hardly knew what the Internet was at that point. LOL I had to coax my husband to help me create those pages. I just wanted to have something I could easily access. I did it to help myself remember things and find them quickly! How times have changed.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_qW2p1f7B0tFuQV--VWlsoH2ulXzuZQca-F46h_82qA0oC99bKTlwXse9TzT3G0raKykPC-ynMWCx6NRuMA8QdIh2-G99fp0Xe3LAnpvAM7ogoewukfHlpAJTn4C2z7p2XtX7d7-3ocxmeTDWISG-STX6oLUMAoOPUg89IJHhdUFDulSnL2bBeXgxUg/s503/logo-by-ben.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="70" data-original-width="503" height="45" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_qW2p1f7B0tFuQV--VWlsoH2ulXzuZQca-F46h_82qA0oC99bKTlwXse9TzT3G0raKykPC-ynMWCx6NRuMA8QdIh2-G99fp0Xe3LAnpvAM7ogoewukfHlpAJTn4C2z7p2XtX7d7-3ocxmeTDWISG-STX6oLUMAoOPUg89IJHhdUFDulSnL2bBeXgxUg/s320/logo-by-ben.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>The Sandra’s Backyard logo was created for me by my son for my personal site.</p><p>After those first months, I was able to do most of the site work myself on Sandra’s Backyard. The crochet pages had expanded so much that I had to separate them from the personal information which consisted of mostly homeschooling information. My kids are long graduated from school now so I let Sandra’s Backyard go a while back. It was a difficult decision and hard to let it go though.</p><p>I created another site – Crafty Corral – for crafts not related to crochet. I’ve since let that one go as I really don’t do a lot of other crafts anymore.</p><p>Here are the dates for those who like details.</p><p>Crochet Cabana began in October 1997 (domain name was purchased March 2001)<br />Crochet Cabana’s Crafty Corral began November, 2004. Now discontinued.<br />The Crochet Cabana Blog began May 11, 2010.<br />Previous site overhaul was in November, 2012.</p><p>Current site overhaul was in September 2017 which combined the blog and website in one location. The reason for the overhaul was that the program I was using then was discontinued and I couldn’t do updates.</p><p>The last major site overhaul in 2017 forced me to learn WordPress. WordPress, of course, updates and changes things all the time so it’s a constant battle to keep things in order. While sometimes it is frustrating, overall it’s been okay. I particularly like having the blog and the website together.</p><p>The logos have been redone a few times through the years as well. Here are a few of the logos I’ve had.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO_0TMoEQfUnMhp4Bye8sa9lhyRugr_ykqoc464CQdiM0j05EQlgZ-BeSUXTRhnXLbqpMnlCRMbiLxw45tyRKXUmaPVIKTs8OCwJFMZU5yJibhWxp3WfOio4qVgMKtWIY0sX9If4CO3UBrOBqZhaevTDkmAVVXv0Xa3_oEFRnAuf1SkLA6_ML_MFLz8A/s453/past%20banner%20logos.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="453" data-original-width="344" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO_0TMoEQfUnMhp4Bye8sa9lhyRugr_ykqoc464CQdiM0j05EQlgZ-BeSUXTRhnXLbqpMnlCRMbiLxw45tyRKXUmaPVIKTs8OCwJFMZU5yJibhWxp3WfOio4qVgMKtWIY0sX9If4CO3UBrOBqZhaevTDkmAVVXv0Xa3_oEFRnAuf1SkLA6_ML_MFLz8A/s320/past%20banner%20logos.jpg" width="243" /></a></div><br /><p>My daughter designed those beauties. The one I have now I did myself and it’s not great but it serves.</p><p>I’ve changed hosts multiple times. I’ve used free hosts and paid hosts. We were on dial-up when I first started and let me tell you that FTPing 50 pages takes a LONG time! LOL I was almost dancing around the living room when we got rid of dial-up. It was amazing. I couldn’t believe how fast the files moved over. Now, of course, I am spoiled and constantly ask why the Internet is so slow. heh</p><p>Keeping up the site is a lot of work but it is a labor of love. Although I try to keep things current, crocheting has changed a lot in the past decade. I don’t mean the basics – those have been the same since its inception. Designers, however, are coming up with new ways to combine those stitches and that is a good thing. It keeps things fresh.</p><p>YouTube and other streaming services have also changed the way crocheters look for help and inspiration. It’s easy to watch a video. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/c/FiberSpider" target="_blank">Fiber Spider</a> is one of my favorites there for patterns. While YouTube is a great tool for the visual learner, anyone can post a video there. You can’t be sure how experienced and knowledgeable the person is. It’s a good idea to watch videos by several different people for the thing you’re trying to learn. At one time, I was able to make videos. I did enjoy it when I could do it, but I haven’t been able to do that for a while now.</p><p>There are so many wonderful teachers of crochet out there. They come from all the corners of the globe too! Most of the patterns I look at use American terminology – yes there are differences in UK and US terms. <a href="https://marlybird.com/" target="_blank">MarlyBird</a>, <a href="https://thecrochetcrowd.com/" target="_blank">Michael Sellick of the Crochet Crowd</a>, <a href="https://www.americancrochetassociation.com/" target="_blank">Salena Baca of American Crochet Association</a>, <a href="https://tlyarncrafts.com/" target="_blank">Toni Lipsey of TL Yarn Crafts</a>, the Mother and daughters of <a href="https://daisyfarmcrafts.com/" target="_blank">Daisy Farm Crafts</a>, <a href="https://daisycottagedesigns.net/" target="_blank">Daisy Cottage Designs</a> … I could go on and on and on listing them. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of wonderful designers and teachers in the U.S. Some of them specialize in a particular type of crochet. Toni Lipsey does a lot of Tunisian crochet work, for example.</p><p>A lot of designers do both crochet and knit as well.</p><p>Then there is <a href="https://bellacococrochet.com/" target="_blank">Bella Coco’s Sarah Jayne Fragola</a> in the UK, a designer I adore. Being across the pond, she uses UK terminology but always notes the American translation. There are other UK crocheters who I love as well, such as Sue Rawlinson. Her patterns are wonderful and I’ve purchased and translated many of them. Yes, it’s a pain to have to translate them but some things are worth the trouble.</p><p>As I get older I tend to look for things I can do in a shorter period of time and things that have meaning to me and those for whom I crochet. My first choice is rarely a complicated pattern though I so admire the beautiful creations I see on Facebook and other places.</p><p>Well, that ends my look back at the past and my thoughts on the present. I know some of you reading this have traveled this path with me for many years. I appreciate each and every one of you who visits Crochet Cabana.</p><p>Who knows where the future will lead? Perhaps I’ll see you back here at the 30th anniversary. 🙂</p><p>Happy Crocheting!</p><p>Sandie</p>Sandiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08439303528712333600noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5695937586613580329.post-84389988546684278572022-08-14T06:54:00.004-05:002022-08-14T06:54:57.846-05:00Mid year update<p>So half of 2022 is gone - well, more than half now as it's August. I happen to think of this blog and thought I'd do an update. Of course, as always, you can see the posts as they happen by going to <a href="http://crochetcabana.com">crochetcabana.com</a> over at Wordpress. At the moment, that's where I do the regular posts.</p><p>This year has been the year of scarves. A young relative is fighting for her life at St. Jude and I am sending scarves for her to give to her caregivers. This is a way to both give back to those who care for others and to bring a smile to her sweet face as she loves choosing just the right one for each person and giving them out. I began making these at the end of April. </p><p>Before I started on scarves, however, I completed a number of other projects.</p><p>In January 2022, I finished a <a href="https://mayhemandmajesty.com/shop/doctor-who-blanket/" target="_blank">Doctor Who afghan</a>, an <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/997295884/crochet-afghan-pattern-eagle-filet" target="_blank">Eagle afghan</a>, and a memory afghan .</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBVCWaxOJuN1ZLeQCy1umGMz0JrEZ0wYNsqMeaW7bvj3MNG8cf4vb9U-G_tcYPWPD8Ky29m_Gdvg7yNXae132CXye8FpOUWR_gCw7HDjuFYWzBuClGsBWfuDZUDfj9roGENqS82UyomePyddHUd5anmqilsl4RrzKq_Um8tkOzkY5bGCpDvR8ogOnDg/s5184/Doctor%20Who%20afghan%20for%20Becky.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5184" data-original-width="3456" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBVCWaxOJuN1ZLeQCy1umGMz0JrEZ0wYNsqMeaW7bvj3MNG8cf4vb9U-G_tcYPWPD8Ky29m_Gdvg7yNXae132CXye8FpOUWR_gCw7HDjuFYWzBuClGsBWfuDZUDfj9roGENqS82UyomePyddHUd5anmqilsl4RrzKq_Um8tkOzkY5bGCpDvR8ogOnDg/s320/Doctor%20Who%20afghan%20for%20Becky.JPG" width="213" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You can find the blog post <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/2022/01/14/doctor-who-afghan/" target="_blank">here</a>. </div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoqCv7XNXA3KKqSB7QNzfW1nsD4NlniIdYeQwJvcAcw7yIgmcVsCkLypgaW-JBF4wgKMNFrUnTIHUNPVrcuRI40VPKrHAnM91sjznV4_HCziiAS26XTYLORCVVMzlyFVQySwE3LUSrwxP4GrixVVUfyqLGN1dFwIUbyoENtwm3hMHNVhvMYtk5BXcYaA/s3864/Mark%201-30-2022%20%20Eagle%20afghan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3281" data-original-width="3864" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoqCv7XNXA3KKqSB7QNzfW1nsD4NlniIdYeQwJvcAcw7yIgmcVsCkLypgaW-JBF4wgKMNFrUnTIHUNPVrcuRI40VPKrHAnM91sjznV4_HCziiAS26XTYLORCVVMzlyFVQySwE3LUSrwxP4GrixVVUfyqLGN1dFwIUbyoENtwm3hMHNVhvMYtk5BXcYaA/s320/Mark%201-30-2022%20%20Eagle%20afghan.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The blog post can be found <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/2022/01/31/eagle-afghan/" target="_blank">here</a>. </div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqt45AVC3vywHo7mKnqkSgYVt4K08t0fgb59ZwSKyLNf9CSzgEbzTfbdRAEqbVreij_N-jN--FouYtJ7jMlHxCeTlZfTrqgdSdBvijfHru-xCSaOZk7OPx6myWY8O7VSSpk_mJmuq_f_u7xEID1Vy73IeHQJU01qa2wk2vvwglEmRnTaiEU_XtWs8ULw/s5184/parent%20afghan%20for%20Kent%20IMG_3826.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="5184" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqt45AVC3vywHo7mKnqkSgYVt4K08t0fgb59ZwSKyLNf9CSzgEbzTfbdRAEqbVreij_N-jN--FouYtJ7jMlHxCeTlZfTrqgdSdBvijfHru-xCSaOZk7OPx6myWY8O7VSSpk_mJmuq_f_u7xEID1Vy73IeHQJU01qa2wk2vvwglEmRnTaiEU_XtWs8ULw/s320/parent%20afghan%20for%20Kent%20IMG_3826.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The blog post can be found <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/2022/01/30/11022/" target="_blank">here</a>. </div><p>In March I made all the pieces for a Kitty Couch, as well as a wee afghan for the kitty. I set a goal for myself of 50 scarves and have surpassed that. I'm working on #68 now. They are still needed and bringing smiles. :-) <p></p><p>Some of them are patterns from my <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/patterns/scarf-patterns/" target="_blank">scarf pattern</a> page. Some became new patterns that were added to that page. Sometimes I make them horizontally and sometimes vertically. I try to make each one different but there are some repeats though in a different color. I favor the front post stitch and the front cross stitch so a lot of them use those stitches.</p><p>If you like making scarves, another site with loads of ideas is <a href="http://globalwarmingwithcrochet.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kim Jiries blog</a>. She made 115 scarves throughout 2011. I'm thinking I might like to beat that, just for fun. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikkHfTq_WFSeBGlKhVqy3nrCWhbsBhFSbGheBuHoxOWI2utH1lIPRA2Nv_hZWNFX3zmJQYtjtCwKAHmbtWcmpC-1nfEGCj9ryAYCqTpy2iXlJYrjygzH6Gy1yewr1pWMA-kXiNAqboUZI6MfsMKhHLTN4_avm1doHhoz9jifnyTObgKcmPOKdhY8chEw/s4009/SJ%2016%205-12-2022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; So let's review the year!</p><p>Many of the projects for the year were scarves and wee blankies. I won't reproduce them here as there were so many. If you need more information on anything below just go to the Wordpress site and look in the month mentioned. </p><p>In the latter part of 2020 I made some strips and sent them to my friend Sandy over at the Bridge and Beyond. She assembled them as she had time and this is the beautiful result of our joined efforts. I so much love how this came out!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhEWiAEHdOuBff3WmWLw1P5RopuYAthP8c-TRToCKarUiCeq_O-AM3CeIjSzqBoRdN-LqPTtic6p4KpmRBVlsIGOt3u7bEntivc2sxRUm4y2cUmCAo45xa3la22Lu6M5WcNGCst957PKpTS5FOiULS_sHepzQFNQIK2vbvc5_9egh5GfuBUl5OyS66z=s1726" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="682" data-original-width="1726" height="126" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhEWiAEHdOuBff3WmWLw1P5RopuYAthP8c-TRToCKarUiCeq_O-AM3CeIjSzqBoRdN-LqPTtic6p4KpmRBVlsIGOt3u7bEntivc2sxRUm4y2cUmCAo45xa3la22Lu6M5WcNGCst957PKpTS5FOiULS_sHepzQFNQIK2vbvc5_9egh5GfuBUl5OyS66z=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>In February 2021 I discontinued the Facebook page. I didn't feel there was anything there to warrant keeping a page. I mostly just posted a link to the blog post. It just felt redundant.</p><p>In March I attended a zoom yarn tasting! This was my first experience with a yarn tasting. It was fun! The way it works is you purchase a sample pack (less than 1 oz of each of 6 yarns) and make something with the small samples if you want to. Then on the zoom we talk about it. The yarn was all by Berroco. It was hosted by McNeedles. Here is <a href="http://www.mcneedles-la.com/module/class/261422/at-home-berroco-yarn-tasting" target="_blank">the link</a> but it's long over now. My favorite of the samples was called <a href="https://www.berroco.com/yarns/berroco-ultra-wool-handpaint" target="_blank">Handpaint</a>. </p><p>In the spring I worked on a CAL by Sirdar - <a href="https://sirdar.com/en/products/sweet-blossom-blanket-in-hayfield-bonus-dk" target="_blank">the Sweet Blossom afghan</a> by Sue Rawlinson, who quickly became one of my favorite designers! I found many of her other designs and purchased them. I bought the kit for this afghan and it went to my niece as a wedding gift. It was a fun project and nice to have a group to talk to about it as there was a Facebook group created for the project. Many of the crocheters went on to do other Sue Rawlinson patterns as well.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg2eF5BhiJV8E93Mu3uxG5b5M1Jgz2QDo6AaTiINx7VZb3aQH1VSo8HliWwjIUCnGp2w5iqOc-r_urWIPagqMNEdHi-An8e2NLqVvu5KwXOKJZ8mX5LB5oB_NPWI-YZsfBW41tZZwJG65WS22rzgtGiIAoTPKbQPzlGCzfJWUeQ6RCJ3AKYR12EOGrd=s4670" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3309" data-original-width="4670" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg2eF5BhiJV8E93Mu3uxG5b5M1Jgz2QDo6AaTiINx7VZb3aQH1VSo8HliWwjIUCnGp2w5iqOc-r_urWIPagqMNEdHi-An8e2NLqVvu5KwXOKJZ8mX5LB5oB_NPWI-YZsfBW41tZZwJG65WS22rzgtGiIAoTPKbQPzlGCzfJWUeQ6RCJ3AKYR12EOGrd=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>In June I purchased a <a href="https://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/the-wool-jeanie" target="_blank">Wool Jeanie</a>. It quickly became one of my favorite and most useful tools in my crochet arsenal. I even bought one for my daughter and she agreed!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhSMDFKjaPJUN91NvIB_O2Pmnw4u8sQU96Ycesx25EOr2sFEdxq723Ai6QMhYshOwXqnFrAn9PdOSveIZLXKSq1-ZlCeW8yR-22aRd5K8e-qmtf3kmdQunctyw4yYko8E7TFT2Zf-VLqgOr3vJCS-HXIgOn4_2pFfFoMIPnfIMa7VH2-HQ6ZGq2726c=s4868" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4868" data-original-width="2938" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhSMDFKjaPJUN91NvIB_O2Pmnw4u8sQU96Ycesx25EOr2sFEdxq723Ai6QMhYshOwXqnFrAn9PdOSveIZLXKSq1-ZlCeW8yR-22aRd5K8e-qmtf3kmdQunctyw4yYko8E7TFT2Zf-VLqgOr3vJCS-HXIgOn4_2pFfFoMIPnfIMa7VH2-HQ6ZGq2726c=s320" width="193" /></a></div><br />In July I finished a hippo afghan which I put aside for a Christmas gift. We are still not recovered from that. We are personally still waiting to have our roof replaced but are otherwise okay. We are hoping that will happen next month (February 2022). We did not have Internet for several weeks and had spotty phone service so I wasn't able to do any updates to the website for a while. We didn't have power but we did have generators and a window unit so my daughter's family stayed with us until power came back on. We were kept pretty busy and it was hot as we couldn't run the generator constantly so I didn't do much crocheting.</div><div><br /></div><div>If anyone is interested here are the Ida facts I gathered along the way for our street.<br /><div>Hurricane Ida (8-29-2021)</div><div>Power out 8-29-2021 to 9-10-2021 (13 days), boil water to 9-17-2021 (20 days), limit sewer usage to 9-19-2021 (22 days), curfew to 9-20-2021 (23 days), no Cox Internet to 10-2-2021 (possibly 10-1 during the night (34 days)[note: Internet was steady for a day, then went out, then came back for a few days), burn ban rescinded day 48, debris pickup discontinued 12-5-2021</div></div><div><br /></div><div>My husband had just had a birthday and had gotten a pellet grill so we had that and a regular gas grill as well as a small camp stove. My daughter's chickens survived so we had fresh eggs, which is a staple of my own diet! </div><div><br /></div><div>In October I was back in gear with crochet. I made two little heart blankets for twins due in the spring. the pattern is from Mayhem & Majesty and is called <a href="https://mayhemandmajesty.com/shop/woven-hearts-blanket/" target="_blank">Woven Hearts.</a> I love her numerical filet patterns and have bought several of them.<br /><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgfaTkMu4qOHv12hd96RC1rze2RGi1W9J2SkxH7YUlcHcPzMrG-UHLklQlh6I8fuPzzyQglHcHVG3tiBChJVnhI5pyLcoho00fEfHYEPaiPFRJLAyFBmZ3Y65pfLkjkUdd0ELa3uTrDELEEv0mjWONy3yvj_dnedLw-q0wUcxdjKiuXYG8wGwgD4HLg=s5184" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="5184" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgfaTkMu4qOHv12hd96RC1rze2RGi1W9J2SkxH7YUlcHcPzMrG-UHLklQlh6I8fuPzzyQglHcHVG3tiBChJVnhI5pyLcoho00fEfHYEPaiPFRJLAyFBmZ3Y65pfLkjkUdd0ELa3uTrDELEEv0mjWONy3yvj_dnedLw-q0wUcxdjKiuXYG8wGwgD4HLg=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>October was a busy crochet month! Minecraft Pig, Creeper, Skeleton, Chicken, Sheep, and Steve. The finished size is about 50″ x 75″.</p><p>For the patterns I used bead charts from <a href="http://www.minieco.co.uk/minecraft-design-sheets-hama-beads-paper-mosaic/" target="_blank">MiniEco</a> except for the chicken which was a quilting chart from <a href="https://myrainydaydesigns.com/minecraft-quilt/" target="_blank">Rainy Day Designs</a>. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRzyiYox6v7kqUwDO3Wm_WhWEPKevG4_WpKbPmPWVBk5L-UAGUsngLTxQd2kn8gTcW8Uj7BoirX-sJuCSvUlwwH9FLSTB2daRPcTGV5L4YvGmMefZws94UzYszfuxVxFUUPib4MsRpPhg/s2048/Minecraft+character+afghan+11-18-2020+complete.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1613" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRzyiYox6v7kqUwDO3Wm_WhWEPKevG4_WpKbPmPWVBk5L-UAGUsngLTxQd2kn8gTcW8Uj7BoirX-sJuCSvUlwwH9FLSTB2daRPcTGV5L4YvGmMefZws94UzYszfuxVxFUUPib4MsRpPhg/s320/Minecraft+character+afghan+11-18-2020+complete.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>In addition to the Minecraft afghans, I recently finished an Emoji afghan. The pattern for the squares are part of the CAL at <a href="https://mayhemandmajesty.com/2021-filet-cal-details/" target="_blank">Mayhem and Majesty</a>. You can purchase the whole thing if you're impatient like me. :-) </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEuxGTjWQXnAZPwYs4yfo5Q30oOOdxA8BPcxXemOWKOicAP_45MiazJaAS35R3pkriaFPLXUpYLUKEBJ6FxKlVLTK8aijWe0ypzDKMWTm2BoKms38wHY424XuKKFGXyYuXr8fJSHULJvw/s2048/emoji+afghan+1-14-2021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1709" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEuxGTjWQXnAZPwYs4yfo5Q30oOOdxA8BPcxXemOWKOicAP_45MiazJaAS35R3pkriaFPLXUpYLUKEBJ6FxKlVLTK8aijWe0ypzDKMWTm2BoKms38wHY424XuKKFGXyYuXr8fJSHULJvw/s320/emoji+afghan+1-14-2021.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>I've worked a number of patterns in the numerical filet as designed by Mayhem and Majesty. With that in mind, I went a little crazy myself and started making Minecraft afghans. They are made of 3" granny squares. </p><p>The first one is Minecraft Steve with his sword. It is about 60" x 67". So many tails!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J8X1qP_qc18/X634oC-reZI/AAAAAAAAMjk/sTy8UuKvI2U_zPKXP6DJ54B36L-W0REewCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Minecraft%2Bafghan%2B%2B10-2020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J8X1qP_qc18/X634oC-reZI/AAAAAAAAMjk/sTy8UuKvI2U_zPKXP6DJ54B36L-W0REewCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Minecraft%2Bafghan%2B%2B10-2020.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Then with even more crazy I decided to do several smaller pieces of characters. I'm not quite finished but have these done. Here are Minecraft Pig, Skeleton, Steve, Creeper and Sheep. I'm currently working on Chicken. Each of these are about 24" square. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q0l_e0H0SXw/X635YOU6HAI/AAAAAAAAMjw/ED_HvTJtueIo7SFLRSmgdv5opopCvPkbQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Minecraft%2BPig%2B10-17-2020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1847" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-q0l_e0H0SXw/X635YOU6HAI/AAAAAAAAMjw/ED_HvTJtueIo7SFLRSmgdv5opopCvPkbQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Minecraft%2BPig%2B10-17-2020.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6AxSIMHb2olk6KM65aVuqmiwMyCEpZpiGoymCnJGgaa8eHmisFNOKBD97tMa_kbA-r7Y1TAUCL94ZaYb0ixcc4bc_SQ_SYX2teTInY3XrIyIhenbuqrjuN1UhUoaE07FSI28mzO57Rcrc/s2048/Minecraft+skeleton+10-22-2020+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1883" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6AxSIMHb2olk6KM65aVuqmiwMyCEpZpiGoymCnJGgaa8eHmisFNOKBD97tMa_kbA-r7Y1TAUCL94ZaYb0ixcc4bc_SQ_SYX2teTInY3XrIyIhenbuqrjuN1UhUoaE07FSI28mzO57Rcrc/s320/Minecraft+skeleton+10-22-2020+%25281%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r2W3aOWIDnM/X635l6GpG6I/AAAAAAAAMj4/UpwoUenHxUw4K2fhzkyoTf-cW2S_S3uXQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/Minecraft%2BSteve%2Bhead-.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1805" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r2W3aOWIDnM/X635l6GpG6I/AAAAAAAAMj4/UpwoUenHxUw4K2fhzkyoTf-cW2S_S3uXQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Minecraft%2BSteve%2Bhead-.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LRBllKJZmTA/X635lm2d9VI/AAAAAAAAMj0/hKx6AUu516cmzSfRq-yQG2C_LewkrOjHwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/minecraft%2Bcreeper%2B%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1874" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LRBllKJZmTA/X635lm2d9VI/AAAAAAAAMj0/hKx6AUu516cmzSfRq-yQG2C_LewkrOjHwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/minecraft%2Bcreeper%2B%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_vporz0Nacs/X6357Cwq9LI/AAAAAAAAMkI/AE0qOmo-PpwDyLWY5dt9m-haSQ74KikLACLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/PXL_20201101_125130924.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_vporz0Nacs/X6357Cwq9LI/AAAAAAAAMkI/AE0qOmo-PpwDyLWY5dt9m-haSQ74KikLACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/PXL_20201101_125130924.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>I used a G hook and sport yarn for all of these. Steve with sword is Knit Picks Brava Sport. Some of the other pieces use that yarn also as well as Bernat Baby sport and Premier Everyday black.</p><p>I used the beading patterns at <a href="http://www.minieco.co.uk/images/feb14/minecraft-characters.pdf" target="_blank">Minieco</a> for these. For the chicken I'm using a different pattern from <a href="https://www.tensisters.com/product/pixelcraft-quilt/" target="_blank">Ten Sisters</a>. I'll add that picture here when it's done. As you can see I haven't sewn in all the tails yet. I just tucked them in for some of the pictures.</p><p>Remember that most of my posting is now done at Wordpress. Here are a few things off my hook recently.<br />

The first few are from a course with the <a href="https://americancrochetassociation.com/" target="_blank">American Crochet Association</a>. Some of the stitches have videos. There are 30 stitches in the course I'm currently taking. I'm enjoying going through them. These are paid courses, not free.<br />

<br />
This one is #24 Climbing Shells. Very simple repeat. I used I Love This Yarn #353 Menthe Dye Lot 911010 and an I hook.<br /><br />You find the pattern in Leisure Arts leaflet 63 Easy to Crochet Pattern Stitches Combine to Make an Heirloom Afghan. This is a 1987 leaflet that has been reprinted oodles of times. You can find it many places. At <a href="https://www.knitpicks.com/63-easy-to-crochet-pattern-stitches-combine-to-make-an-heirloom-afghan/p/32682" target="_blank">Knit Picks the leaflet</a> is on sale as I write this. You can buy and read reviews at <a href="https://www.amazon.com/63-Easy-Crochet-Pattern-Stitches-ebook/dp/B00KJ04XWM" target="_blank">Amazon</a> as well.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These scarves are straight double crochet, worked horizontally. I chained 203 with a Furls K hook and the Woolspun yarn on this one. The color is Forest Print. They are about 6-7″ by about 76″.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QPpi1ItQeMg/Xl6IyrRIymI/AAAAAAAAMVs/4LQrJGjzWM4uIwBE1VVjB8fHfb5if7yxACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/scarves%2Bwoolspun%2B2-10-2020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1375" data-original-width="1600" height="274" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QPpi1ItQeMg/Xl6IyrRIymI/AAAAAAAAMVs/4LQrJGjzWM4uIwBE1VVjB8fHfb5if7yxACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/scarves%2Bwoolspun%2B2-10-2020.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is my Super Bowl scarf. I saw a pattern at <a href="http://www.lionbrand.com/blog/super-bowl-stitching-showdown/" target="_blank">Lion Brand </a>to make one and even though I didn't actually watch the Super Bowl, I made the scarf. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I chained a little bit more to make it wider. For half time I worked 25 rows of double crochet. There were 99 rows without half time ones. I measured it at the end of the 4th quarter section and it was about 48″. I decided to just add more on the end to make it close to 60″ which I think of as the average length needed for a scarf.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I used I Love This Yarn cranberry and a gold that did not have a label. It wasn’t planned, just what I had on hand.</div>
<br />

The first one (and a few of the others) is from the <a href="https://theunraveledmitten.com/2020/01/09/winter-waves-throw-cal/" target="_blank">Unraveled Mitten winter CAL</a> - It is the first square <a href="https://theunraveledmitten.com/2020/01/15/winter-waves-throw-cal-part-1/" target="_blank">Half Square Triangle</a>. The color changes are a little tricky but otherwise not a difficult square to work.<br />

<br />
So I heard about this new yarn called Red Heart Heat Wave. It’s supposed to heat up to 12 degrees when exposed to UV light. If it works as indicated what a great help to those who work outdoors or the homeless who are exposed to the elements on a daily basis.<br />
<br />
Here’s a picture of the label front and back. You can see it says this is a “heat generating yarn” which is “sunlight activated – even on cloudy days”. It has the 12 degree Fahrenheit (6.6c) notation. It is made in the USA of imported fibers. It is a medium weight (#4) yarn and the recommended hook size is 5.5mm which is an I hook. I always find it interesting that the knitting needle size on most yarns is slightly smaller. In this case, it is 5mm. It allows machine wash and dry and is 100% acrylic. The part that didn’t come out in the photo is Coats and Clark address and distribution info.<br />
<br />
The arrow points to the CAUTION. “Do not microwave or expose to high frequencies”. I’ve never used a yarn with a caution. How interesting! 🙂<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rkqGaYDaPAY/XgC_2k3eYxI/AAAAAAAAMQo/Joc6aLEn1AgEWTPaA1VHLSClAXcS9DPDgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/heat%2Bwave%2Byarn%2Blabel.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1464" data-original-width="1600" height="292" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rkqGaYDaPAY/XgC_2k3eYxI/AAAAAAAAMQo/Joc6aLEn1AgEWTPaA1VHLSClAXcS9DPDgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/heat%2Bwave%2Byarn%2Blabel.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here is the inside of the label where it explains how the process works. There is a typo in it. It should say “Heat Wave uses a patented fiber that ABSORBS energy from the sun to turn it into warmth, even on cloudy days. The special fibers are spun into the yarn from the beginning so they will never wash out. Heat Wave will keep you up to 12F/6.6C warmer when you are outside …”<br />

<br />
I have not seen the yarn available anywhere close to me so I ordered some from Joann’s to try it. You can also get it at the Yarnspirations website but Joann’s had it on sale at the time for less than $5/skein.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S185b3tJngk/XgDE_DYUTTI/AAAAAAAAMRA/Aq-LtEzufxgSGPZ0y81wPiQVO37WcK0bQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/grey%2Bheat%2Bwave%2B11-21-2019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1460" data-original-width="1600" height="291" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-S185b3tJngk/XgDE_DYUTTI/AAAAAAAAMRA/Aq-LtEzufxgSGPZ0y81wPiQVO37WcK0bQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/grey%2Bheat%2Bwave%2B11-21-2019.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The Crochet Crowd has a nice little FAQ on this yarn that I found informative. With regards to the caution Mikey explains: “Simply, don’t put it into the microwave. The fibres are sensitive to pick up the UV light to activate the heat. This is not a yarn to use for applications like a rice bag or anything along those lines.”<br />
<br />
A review on YouTube – I don’t remember which one it was but just search for Heat Wave yarn – indicated that it is similar to Supersaver in that it is rough at the start and softens with washing. I washed the three-color scarf and confirmed that it was much softer after washing.<br />
<br />
There was another reviewer who went all out and gave specific temperature info. Kudos to Jillian Eve. She even did a video which I found interesting to watch. She found the Heat Wave significantly warmer.<br />
<br />
After I read her review I remembered that we have one of those tools to measure temperature. I tried it but I did not get the same results she did. Maybe due to location? I put the scarf and a couple of skeins of comparable colored yarn on a metal chair in my backyard. It was a cloudy day and very humid and a bit cool. I did find the maroon color warmer but the blue and grey were pretty close to the other manufacturer yarns in the hour or so I had them out there. I measured them outside and then again inside. Inside they quickly went back to normal temps.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OCnAUWy2-qM/XgDE-ge_wNI/AAAAAAAAMQ8/6SQgjIntWGAl21jyT1NcuGF7ek7ENUljwCEwYBhgL/s1600/heat%2Bwave%2Bscarf%2Bon%2Bchair.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="854" data-original-width="874" height="312" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OCnAUWy2-qM/XgDE-ge_wNI/AAAAAAAAMQ8/6SQgjIntWGAl21jyT1NcuGF7ek7ENUljwCEwYBhgL/s320/heat%2Bwave%2Bscarf%2Bon%2Bchair.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
When my yarn came in it looked pretty much like any other yarn. When I started to work with it, I found each color different. The grey (color name radio) was the softest by far and had less pilling than the other two. The maroon (color name luggage) was a little rough and most like Super Saver in my opinion. The blue (color name swim shorts) was full of pilling and I did not like working with it at all. In fact, I had a small ball leftover after I did the multi-colored one and will probably just throw it out. I hear the gasping. Throw out yarn?? It isn’t enough to do much with and I wouldn’t want to combine it with another type of yarn because of the specific properties of this yarn. That said, Jillian Eve did not complain about pilling and she seemed to like working with it so maybe I just got a bad skein. In her video, she indicated she is more familiar with wool but found the Heat Wave had some similar properties.<br />
<br />
Here is a picture of three scarves. They are about 72″ long. I’ve already sent them off but I think they were about 6″ wide.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: start;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1FoAQTSEQIg/XgDE_HwbcTI/AAAAAAAAMRE/LArlq6MzRYADUHTOX7pcVeRVrf1vI-04QCEwYBhgL/s1600/3%2Bheat%2Bwave%2Bscarves%2B11-21-2019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="836" data-original-width="1600" height="167" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1FoAQTSEQIg/XgDE_HwbcTI/AAAAAAAAMRE/LArlq6MzRYADUHTOX7pcVeRVrf1vI-04QCEwYBhgL/s320/3%2Bheat%2Bwave%2Bscarves%2B11-21-2019.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The maroonish color did not show up well in the photo. It is a much prettier shade of red, not as dark as it looks there. You can see it a little better in the photo where I used all three colors to finish up the yarn. A darker blue would have worked better here I think but it will be warm regardless.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bWcrZ5WmkEo/XgDFfHqkIyI/AAAAAAAAMRQ/-PLidFxLelkiGq9dIRXTtwlid2TP5_gwACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/3%2Bcolor%2Bheat%2Bwave%2B11-21-2019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="213" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bWcrZ5WmkEo/XgDFfHqkIyI/AAAAAAAAMRQ/-PLidFxLelkiGq9dIRXTtwlid2TP5_gwACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/3%2Bcolor%2Bheat%2Bwave%2B11-21-2019.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here are all the colors from the Yarnspirations website. I did think the yarn names are funny considering it is supposed to keep you warm. Maybe thinking about the beach makes you feel warm.<br />
<br />
In order: top row: Sandy Shores, Seaweed, Beach Ball, Bikini, Blue Skies, Red Hot, Swim Shorts (my blue),<br />
bottom row: Passport, Radio (my grey), Summer Night, Beach Bag, Ocean, Luggage (my maroon)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hk19ZXs0IFA/XgDFwt8fyVI/AAAAAAAAMRc/590tMpQbdCIOilZLAw4ThDokrlvUyKh8QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/heat%2Bwave%2Bcolors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="152" data-original-width="494" height="98" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hk19ZXs0IFA/XgDFwt8fyVI/AAAAAAAAMRc/590tMpQbdCIOilZLAw4ThDokrlvUyKh8QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/heat%2Bwave%2Bcolors.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I would not buy the blue again but the grey was nice. I guess I’d have to try each color to see how it feels and works. I probably won’t do that unless I find it locally. Let me know if you try it and have a different experience.<br />

I'm still alive and well and continuing the blog over at <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Wordpress,</a> along with keeping up the website.<br />
<br />
My latest projects have gone to Project Robby.<br />
<br />
Here are a few of my favorites from the past few months. Even though the occasion is a sad one and I'm sorry it's needed, I do enjoy searching out patterns and reducing them if necessary.<br />
<br />
You can find more complete pattern information on these at <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">the other site</a>.<br />

Briefly, the yellow is Fiber Spider's <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH1l1bR5CJc&t=13s" target="_blank">Which Way Filet</a>, the pink and blue ripple is <a href="https://www.yarnspirations.com/bernat-ripples-in-the-sand-crochet-afghan/BRC0502-001624V.html" target="_blank">Ripples on the Sand</a> at Yarnspirations, the other pink and blue is my own creation, the bunny is a pattern kit over at <a href="https://www.marymaxim.com/catalog/product/view/id/12315/s/bunnies-blanket-0-12315/" target="_blank">Mary Maxim</a>, the next is <a href="https://daisyfarmcrafts.com/crochet-boho-berry-stitch-blanket/" target="_blank">Boho Berry</a> at Daisy Farm Crafts, then there is<a href="https://naztazia.com/jacobs-ladder-stitch/" target="_blank"> Jacob's Ladder</a> at Naztazia worked a little different than my usual JL afghans, then another Fiber Spider called <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vuTMlgbHUE" target="_blank">Feather and Fan</a>, the next is <a href="https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/after-a-while-argyle" target="_blank">After A While Argyle</a> which is a paid pattern, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i_VnK_4zV4" target="_blank">Call the Midwife</a>, and the last is a mile-a-minute called Restful Rainbows in the book Mile a Minute Afghans.<br />

<br />
The blog and website are now together over at Wordpress. Everything in one place. The blog is the first thing you see when you go to www.crochetcabana.com and the rest of the tutorials, patterns and such are in the drop downs. I think it looks slightly different on phones and tablets but it should all be there.<br />
<br />
I hope everyone had a safe and healthy holiday season. We suffered with the usual colds and viruses but nothing too major. Our Christmas was quiet but nice. We look forward to the New Year. We'll soon see what 2019 holds.<br />
<br />
Happy crocheting!<br />

Happy Anniversary to me!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you've bookmarked crochetcabana.com you should have no problem as it will direct to the new site. If you have bookmarked individual pages on the old site, you'll lose those.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The information from the old site has been transferred to the new site at Wordpress. I've updated and made corrections as I discovered them. As noted previously, videos are links, not embedded, but they are there. The only page that I think still needs work is recipes. I don't know how to make same page links on Wordpress yet, but that is not a crochet page so not really a priority. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">If you find a problem or error or something that needs attention, do use the contact page or email me at crochetcabana@gmail.com and let me know. I did it all myself so ... I am sure I missed things. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">This blog will remain up but future entries will be made at the Wordpress site since it's all one animal, blog and website together. No sense in doing the work twice and I would want the latest information to appear on the front page of the website.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I hope you find it easy to navigate.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Happy crocheting!</span><br />

My pieces are plain. The folks at BC add embellishments so the final pieces will look prettier.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc7xn7m-49MSR1WfBdjL7rXERhodRAUIkDDpZ0MQ__TEUlmQbeNxyfOsWxYYHIkg_2rIl0bx1FKcB4ddfPqgjmbMqEvbRudfgMyfphf1eo7xPK4A-sqsGQzJD-paFbjqTbFocdXhAx7Axu/s1600/cradle+sets+9-20-2017+red.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="563" data-original-width="958" height="188" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc7xn7m-49MSR1WfBdjL7rXERhodRAUIkDDpZ0MQ__TEUlmQbeNxyfOsWxYYHIkg_2rIl0bx1FKcB4ddfPqgjmbMqEvbRudfgMyfphf1eo7xPK4A-sqsGQzJD-paFbjqTbFocdXhAx7Axu/s320/cradle+sets+9-20-2017+red.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The mission of BC from their website: “The mission of Bridget’s Cradles™ is to provide hospitals with knitted and crocheted cradles to hold babies who were born into Heaven in the second trimester of pregnancy.”<br />
<br />
Each set is made up of a cradle, a blanket, and a square. Parents keep the square as a remembrance of their son or daughter who has passed on.<br />
<br />
The sets above were made with I Love This Yarn Turquoise with a G hook. There are extra squares because these are given to parents who lose their child in the first and third semesters.<br />
<br />
If you are interested in helping this cause, you can fill out a volunteer form <a href="http://www.bridgetscradles.com/knitting-crocheting-volunteer" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I haven’t decided what I’m going to work on next. I have yarn for another shawl so maybe that although I’ve been thinking of making squares again. When I know, you’ll know. 🙂 It will probably be something entirely out of the blue. LOL<br />
<br />
Happy crocheting!<br />
SandieSandiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08439303528712333600noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5695937586613580329.post-1127419375031031502017-09-19T07:21:00.001-05:002017-09-19T07:21:19.749-05:00website move<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">About a year ago, I got a new computer.The program I purchased to update the Crochet Cabana web site in 2012 could not be moved to the new computer. When I contacted the publisher of the program, they said it was no longer supported and I'd have to repurchase the program. I didn't care for the program that much so I didn't want to do that. Thus the website has been sitting without additions or changes while I thought about what to do. The blog and Facebook / Twitter are what I have used to relay information. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The dilemma I faced is whether to keep the site going or not. Is the website really that useful? Are people visiting enough to go to the trouble of moving the site? The world of crochet is expanding and changing. Am I able to offer enough new and pertinent content to make it worth a visit or can I do what I need to do with just the blog and YouTube accounts?</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With regards to expenses, besides creating the site, it has to be hosted somewhere. The problem I had with free hosts in the past was that they couldn't handle the number of pages I had on site and the traffic using the site. I had to keep moving it. Because of this we purchased hosting which we've been using with no problem since 2004. However, they are raising costs by about 30%. The only other thing I use the host for is to get those neat statistics I post at the beginning of the year - well, neat to me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also own the domain name, which has to be renewed annually.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To see how useful the site is, I put up a poll on the blog and mentioned it twice on the Facebook page which also posts to Twitter. I have an average of 8500 followers on the FB page. 8 of them responded to the poll. That seems to indicate that the site is not as useful as it perhaps once was. One doesn't expect every person to respond. Some may have missed the notification. Others wouldn't care or wouldn't have time. All understandable. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Before I put up the poll I had checked out a few places to which to move the site. To my knowledge, there is no "automatic" way to move the website anywhere.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I already had a free account with Wordpress. The free account does not include videos so I would have to use links rather than embedding videos. There is also a limit to how many pages one can add though I couldn't find out how many that is. One place said 80, one said 88, one said 100. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The name "Crochet Cabana" is being used by another Wordpress client. That site was last updated in November 2015. Nonetheless, I wouldn't be able to use that name while working on the site. I own the domain name, however, and can just redirect it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All that to say in year 20 Crochet Cabana will be having another overhaul. Even though it may not be as useful as it once was, I find I turn to the site myself to remember things. Since not a lot of people appear to be using the site, I'm not willing to pay for space. However, since I use it myself I'm willing to keep it going at least for a while.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have moved most of the information to Wordpress. It's fairly easy though there's a learning curve. There are 82 pages currently. I haven't gotten any notices about the number of pages so I am assuming it is okay.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The site is actually active though there are still some things I'm working on. The blog will be part of the site, not separate, so if you have this blog bookmarked you will need to bookmark the other one. Wordpress does have a feature to automatically pull blog posts so all of the posts are there, including the recent ones which I've moved over manually.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you are curious to see the new site now, you can find it <a href="https://crochetcabanablog.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">here</a>. I have to figure out how to move the domain name over which I hope to do soon. If you do visit and you find something not working, please do holler out to me. I'm still learning Wordpress. I was so excited to figure out the menu thing. LOL</span><br />

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wlm3P2VU-yE/Wb75fES6lvI/AAAAAAAALOw/6kIArNARhn45Cw1maGEUbYM_zSY3FbjwwCLcBGAs/s1600/2%2Bpink%2B2%2Bblue%2Bcocoons%2Bred%2B9-17-2017%2B.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1354" data-original-width="1143" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wlm3P2VU-yE/Wb75fES6lvI/AAAAAAAALOw/6kIArNARhn45Cw1maGEUbYM_zSY3FbjwwCLcBGAs/s320/2%2Bpink%2B2%2Bblue%2Bcocoons%2Bred%2B9-17-2017%2B.jpg" width="270" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">These were made using the same preemie pattern. It has a flap so it can be opened and the nurses can get to the baby while still keeping him or her mostly covered. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">I have not had occasion to try these on an actual baby but the feedback has been positive. If you're a nurse or someone who handles preemies, feel free to holler out with opinions.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For these, I used Bernat Baby Sport (#3) with a G hook. The skeins are 8.5 oz (240g), 892 yards (816m). 100% acrylic. I was able to get 6 cocoons out of each skein with a smallish ball leftover. The colorways are Tiny Tulips (pink) and Funny Prints (blue). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The methodology of creating the flap is fairly simple. You go into the front loop only on a few stitches, then when you get back to that spot you stitch into the back loop only for those few stitches. From there on, you turn your work each round.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Here is the pattern:<br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Preemie Cocoon with flap </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">©July 2017 Sandra Petit, http://www.crochetcabana.com</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Materials: G hook, DK or sport weight yarn (Bernat Baby Sport is used in the sample)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Note: If you prefer, you can start each round with a ch-3. It won’t change the pattern.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Size: Working to 25 rounds, with a G hook and sport yarn, gave me a cocoon about 10 1/2" tall. If you need a taller cocoon, work more rounds. The bottom is 4-5" diameter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Special stitch: </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">standing dc (join with a dc) for this pattern only: place slip stitch on hook, hold yarn tail firmly in right hand, with working yarn, yarn over twice, insert hook in specified stitch and complete a dc as normal. (Some choose not to put the slip stitch on hook, but that’s how I do it)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Instructions:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Make a magic circle (or ch 4 and join with a sl st to make a ring)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 1: ch 1 (ch-1 does not count as a stitch here and throughout), work 12 dc in the center ring, join with a slip stitch to first dc (not the chain). You can pull your ring a bit tighter now if you're using the adjustable ring. That will almost close your hole. (12 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 2: ch 1, work 2 dc in same stitch, then work 2 dc in each stitch around, join with a slip stitch to first dc (24 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 3: ch 1, dc in same stitch, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) around, join with a sl st to first dc (36 dc) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 4: ch 1, dc in same stitch, dc in each of next 4 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch *dc in each of next 5 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with a slip stitch to first dc (6 increases - 42 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 5: ch 1, dc in same stitch, dc in each of next 5 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch *dc in each of next 6 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * around, join with a slip stitch to first dc. (48 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 6 - 10: ch 1, dc in same stitch and in each stitch around. On last dc, pull yarn through and use the invisible finish off to close round. Place a stitch marker around post of this stitch. This is front side. (Alternately you can join with a slip stitch to first dc and finish off.) (48 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Note: If you want a shorter flap, just work to 15 rounds and then continue with Round 11. This pattern stops at Round 25, but if you want a longer cocoon just make more rounds.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Count 21 stitches from where you ended Round 10 (or your Round 15 if you’re making a short flap)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Do not count the stitch where you joined the round. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Place a stitch marker in stitch 21 to mark the spot.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 11: In stitch 22 make a standing dc in front loop only. Dc in each of the next 4 stitches in front loop only, dc in each remaining stitch around going through both loops. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When you get to the beginning where you worked the front loop stitches, do not join. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Working behind the next stitches, in the free loops (BACK loops only), make one dc in each of the next 5 stitches. This will put those stitches behind the stitches made in the front loop. This will be one side of your flap. From here on out, you will be turning each round. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 12: ch 3, turn, DC in each stitch around. Make sure you don't catch the stitches below as this will close it up. Also don’t miss the standing stitch. (53 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Round 13 - 25: ch 3, turn, dc in each dc around. Finish off. (53 dc)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Edging: With right side facing, starting at lower edge of the left flap, join yarn with a sc. SC in each row along the side. Then sc around the top, then down the inner right flap. Finish off.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><br /></span> <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Sew all tails in.</span><br />

My goal is to make all the cocoons I can make with these two skeins or until I get tired of making cocoons LOL. So far, I've made the ones pictured here plus one more pink which was already sent out. The pink is Bernat Baby Sport Tiny Tulips and the blue is Bernat Baby Sport Funny Prints.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ywEJJa8MYqY/Wa7dLMd3gEI/AAAAAAAALNc/2CNw0nP-9Ygg7limQJtwKq1sXnGPm-awQCLcBGAs/s1600/cocoons%2B9-2017%2Bred.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1090" data-original-width="1419" height="245" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ywEJJa8MYqY/Wa7dLMd3gEI/AAAAAAAALNc/2CNw0nP-9Ygg7limQJtwKq1sXnGPm-awQCLcBGAs/s320/cocoons%2B9-2017%2Bred.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are going to two places - <a href="https://sway.com/QbbonfHCT1eiIQjL" target="_blank">Heartstrings of Houma</a> and <a href="http://danettesangels.tripod.com/home.html" target="_blank">God's Tiny Angels</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Although I am using my own pattern, I wanted to mention that Heartstrings has a pattern for a preemie cocoon/sacque which uses a formula I thought was interesting. At first I was like ugh math so I went my own way, creating my own pattern. But then I went back to it and once I actually did the math, it wasn't difficult at all. Kaci has kindly allowed me to share the details here.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Basically you use the length of the baby. If you don't have a specific baby in mind, no worries. Babies come in all sizes. Your cocoon will fit someone. The figures come from that starting point. (See chart below)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The formula is Length divided by 3.14 to get the diameter of your cocoon bottom. You round up to a whole number so using the "if it's less than half go down, if it's more than half go up" you will essentially be using 3 diameters - 4, 5 and 6".</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is the chart to refer to. Click to make it larger so you can actually read it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JYvAwAShs58/Wa7emYLGWII/AAAAAAAALNo/YtXXM0bzp9YXG6KGsYRl2DG2F6_7AHt0QCLcBGAs/s1600/preemie%2Bchart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="672" data-original-width="913" height="292" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JYvAwAShs58/Wa7emYLGWII/AAAAAAAALNo/YtXXM0bzp9YXG6KGsYRl2DG2F6_7AHt0QCLcBGAs/s400/preemie%2Bchart.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'll save you the trouble of doing the figuring, however. <br />For babies 11.8" to 13.8" diameter is 4". That is 23 to 27 weeks gestation.<br />For babies 14.4 to 16.7" diameter is 5", That is 28 to 32 weeks gestation.<br />For 17.2" it was 5.5"so I was flummoxed whether to go up or down. LOL</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For 17.7 to 20.2" diameter is 6". That is 34 to 41 weeks gestation.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To determine length of cocoon (which determines how many rounds to do) you just subtract 2 from the listed length. In other words If the length is 15", you might make your cocoon 13"'.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here it is in chart form:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wrbJKPNw-sw/Wa7n42dJUgI/AAAAAAAALN4/7F6py4yPjMIeyvmx9UFvqnUTRKsqW0rZgCLcBGAs/s1600/preemie%2Bcocoon%2Bmeasurements.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="196" data-original-width="674" height="116" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wrbJKPNw-sw/Wa7n42dJUgI/AAAAAAAALN4/7F6py4yPjMIeyvmx9UFvqnUTRKsqW0rZgCLcBGAs/s400/preemie%2Bcocoon%2Bmeasurements.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are just guidelines, of course. For the length, I would probably just get an approximate measure. I'm not going to try and get to 9.8 but if it's around 9 1/2" to 10" I'd call it good. My thought is that if it is too long, you can fold it over. If it's too short, the baby won't be fully covered.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Note that the cocoon at Heartstrings uses velcro. I don't put velcro on mine. My past experience with velcro and yarn has been less than successful, especially in the wash. That said, if you are interested in adding it, you might like to make a sample and give it a try.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Happy crocheting!</span><br />

This time I used Bernat Baby Sport in Tiny Tulips colorway. I've actually made two but I forgot to take a picture of the other one. I'll be making more as this is an 8.5 oz skein. I used a G hook.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6nxL5KmaMvg/WaXAa48BQvI/AAAAAAAALM8/4k2j28DQrv0eDvfnJtUhsEB9LpcGVzsTgCEwYBhgL/s1600/cocoon%2Bpink%2Bvariegated%2B8-2017%2Bred.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="555" data-original-width="415" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6nxL5KmaMvg/WaXAa48BQvI/AAAAAAAALM8/4k2j28DQrv0eDvfnJtUhsEB9LpcGVzsTgCEwYBhgL/s320/cocoon%2Bpink%2Bvariegated%2B8-2017%2Bred.jpg" width="239" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The finished length is about 10 1/2". If flattened and measure across, it is about 6" around where Round 10 is. With the flap open it appears wider but really is not when the flaps are closed properly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I used the <a href="http://seamenschurch.org/christmas-at-sea" target="_blank">Christmas at Sea</a> pattern <a href="http://seamenschurch.org/sites/default/files/sci-crochet-scrappy-scarf.pdf" target="_blank">Scrappy Scarf </a>and the Swish superwash wool that was leftover from the other scarves.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Finished scarf is about 7" x 59". I had enough to work a single crochet edging all around.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I used an H hook. Colors are Marine Heather, Lemongrass Heather, Hollyberry, Squirrel Heather, and Bark.</span><br />

It's made from a yarn cake I got at Hobby Lobby. It's called Yarn Bee Sugarwheel and the color is Go Go Cocoa. It's a 7 oz skein of 355 yards. I used the entire thing. It's 100% acrylic worsted weight yarn, though it's on the thicker side of worsted. The price on the label is $6.99 which is a bit higher than I usually pay but I couldn't resist trying this interesting yarn. I'm sure I used a 40% off coupon though. I almost always do. :-)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I used an I hook. I think I chained 26. The finished size is about 7 3/4" x 60". I managed the color changes so that I didn't have a change in the middle of a row, just because that's how I am. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What I liked about it - each color section was about a foot long, more or less, so I could estimate clearly how long it was as I worked.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All in all I'd give this yarn a thumbs up. I had no problems with it, no sections I had to cut out. I lost a tiny bit at the color changes but that was my choice. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Happy crocheting!</span><br />

I'm going to have to see what I have left to see if I can eek another scarf out of the yarn. That's not a yarn I keep on hand. If not, perhaps a hat. You'll know when I know. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The scarf was made with Knit Picks Swish worsted superwash wool in color lemongrass heather. It's quite a nice shade of green. This is a lovely yarn too. I've had no trouble with it at all.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The pattern is the <a href="http://seamenschurch.org/sites/default/files/sci-crochet-mariners-scarf.pdf" target="_blank">Crochet Mariner's Scarf</a> at <a href="http://seamenschurch.org/christmas-at-sea" target="_blank">Christmas at Sea</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The funny thing about this green scarf is that it is made with the same pattern as the brown one yet it took more rows to get to the pattern size, which is 42" long. I'm wondering if I used a different hook for this one. Oh well, both scarves are 42"so it's all good. I know that there are safety issues with the scarves so I wanted to make it exactly as on the site. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Another funny thing is that the Scrappy Scarf, also on the site, is 60" long. </span><br />

This Red Heart Super Saver Jumbo yarn in Icelandic is very nice. It's rough like RHSS is, but there was only one spot I cut out and that was on the second skein I started. These are 10 oz (482 yds) skeins. I used all of one and part of another. The pattern at <a href="https://www.interweave.com/article/crochet/crochet-wheelchair-wrap-pattern/" target="_blank">Interweave </a>says 12 ozs. You can also find the Susan Coes pattern <a href="http://needleworkersroom.blogspot.com/2008/12/wheelchair-wrap.html?m=1" target="_blank">here</a>. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iodn1LJLObw/WZbzqgyNxAI/AAAAAAAALLY/COy6k11j6F8uJwT7xlONyylm-W_Uprr2wCLcBGAs/s1600/shawl%2Bwheelchair%2B8-2017%2Bred.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" data-original-height="905" data-original-width="1390" height="208" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iodn1LJLObw/WZbzqgyNxAI/AAAAAAAALLY/COy6k11j6F8uJwT7xlONyylm-W_Uprr2wCLcBGAs/s320/shawl%2Bwheelchair%2B8-2017%2Bred.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I used an H hook. The shawl came out perfectly at 18" at the longest points (center back, for example).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is a really simple pattern and goes pretty quickly. I did this one in a few days. It's even small enough at the beginning to take along. I took it with me to work on while waiting at the hospital and got a good bit done. I added a round of single crochet all around to give the edges a finished look. I came real close to adding another round of picots but decided against it for this one. Maybe the next one. :-)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There's not enough left of the second skein obviously for another one, but if I'd bought three skeins I could have gotten another one with the same yarn. I think there is enough left, however, for a scarf. Of course, it could be used for hats or squares or anything else.</span><br />
